Solanum lycopersicum
HEIRLOOM. Mortgage Lifter tomatoes are famous for their enormous and super-meaty fruits with few seeds - the perfect sandwich tomato. There are a number of strains of Mortgage Lifter, but this one stood out from a trial of 25 different varieties, producing the best crop of impressive, 1- to 2-pound pink beefsteak fruits. It has been grown since the 1930s by the Halladay family of eastern Kentucky. The fruits are unusually crack-resistant for this type of tomato, and have excellent rich flavor and exceptionally meaty texture. Indeterminate.
Start these seeds indoors 8 to 10 weeks before your last frost date, and transplant out in a location with full sun and fertile, well-draining soil after all danger of frost has passed. They will need a trellis or cage for support. Fruits will begin to ripen about 80 days after transplanting. 0.15 gram packet contains a minimum of 40 seeds.
